About this calendar

  • Computed with the Phugpa system, used by the Nyingma, Gelug and Sakya schools and by the Men-Tsee-Khang almanac, following Svante Janson’s Tibetan Calendar Mathematics.
  • Checked day by day against the 1951–2050 Tibetan–Chinese almanac: 36,528 of 36,560 days agree, and on every disagreement that Edward Henning’s Phugpa tables cover, Henning agrees with this calendar.
  • When a month is doubled, festivals are kept in the first one and the second is the leap month. When a date is doubled, festivals fall on the first; when a date is skipped, its observance moves to the day before. Losar is the first day of the first month.
  • Practice schedules differ between lineages and centres; please follow your teacher and your centre.
